Tour to Rio Lagartos Biosphere
and Ek-Balam Mayan Ruins
From Playa del Carmen, Mexico
The
ecotour departs from Playa del Carmen, Mexico, at about 7:30 am
and crosses the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula on a journey
of approximately 3 hours.
During the trip across the Yucatan Peninsula, there is a brief
stop planned to stretch and relax a bit. The tour route provides
an optimal occasion to discover the traditions and everyday customs
of the villages the tour passes, which are virtually free of contamination.
Let's not forget that we will be about to visit a natural paradise, presented
on Discovery Channel as "A New Ecological Refuge". If this reserve
were anywhere close to Playa del Carmen or Cancun, it would not be so well preserved
ecologically.
The tour arrives in the very heart of the reserve, among the ancestral mangroves.
The tour boats await us with expert guides. All the tour guides we use are certified
in the ecological courses provided by the Rio Largartos park.
In each one of the boats there will be room enough for six passengers and a
tour guide who speaks Spanish perfectly, permitting everyone on board to observe,
photograph and film.
For more than two hours we will glide through canals and sections of open.
This tour is a photographic safari like very few in the world, and we can see
crocodiles, cranes, gray and white pelicans, ibises and the beautiful and unforgettable
pink flamingos.
We
will also stop to see the salt mines: approximately 12 miles of pink lakes.
Boat, sun and open space are great entrees, and the tour stops for a delicious
lunch. The food, fish based, is enough to satisfy any appetite: shrimp crepes,
sea trout filet and grouper filet filled with battered or grilled shrimp. Truly
a great dish, served in a simple, yet clean palapa hut ran by fishermen at the
shore of the lagoon with the boats that softly rock with the breeze from the
ocean.
White wine, sodas and beer are included, and, for those who don't like fish,
there will always be a good beef filet or an omelet made to the customers preference.
We don't like doing things in a hurry, so after the meal we will have a bit
of time.... to rest and contemplate the beautiful scenery.
The highlight of the trip back is a visit to the Mayan archeological site of
Ek-Balam. The Ek-Balam Mayan ruins are not found in any travel guides so fortunately
mass tourism has not discovered these Mayan ruins yet. Our tour of the Mayan
ruins will be in complete tranquility and loneliness: it is simply magical.
The people who will accompany us on the Mayan ruins tour will be able to transmit
to us the feelings that will be the goal of our excursion: excitement and relaxation.
The tour return to Playa del Carmen is set for 7:30 in the evening.
On this tour, you have the assurance of finding what you are looking for
and discovering something amazing that is unique in the world!
